Finshed Imagine Pageant Poster

Finshed Imagine Pageant review

Sound in the film

The most important diegetic sound in our short film is the dialogue; our film relies heavily on exposition to explain what is going on to the audience. The actresses in our short film have regional dialect, and our screen play contains many colloquialisms as these are important in creating representations of social classes and regional identities. In our film we have used internal diegetic voice over to refer to The Girls thoughts. A direct mode of address is also present in our film, the very last sentence “Well, what do you think?” said by Anna, is aimed directly at the audience. Although breaking the fourth wall is often used for comic effect, in Imagine Pageant we used it to make the final sentence stick in the audiences mind. The mode of address used is peer to peer. The non diegetic sound we used is the music; this is most direct in its emotional effect. The particular times in the film that we used the music were chosen specifically to transform a scene into a more solemn moment. It is non diegetic, incidental score music that we used to manipulate the audiences emotions and also to highlight the significance of the mirror scene.

film progress

Our video is now complete. In order to submit it we had to cut it down from 10 minutes to 5 minutes. We had to be very strict when cutting to remove any unnecessary footage. We changed the script a little in that we focused on the roundabout for a flash back, rather than the swings. We think this created a better effect for our film giving better insight to the story. The audio was recorded afterwards to create a voiceover; this produced a better link between the audience and the film.

Music for the film

Wichita failed to respond to our email, so instead we decided to compose and play our own music to include in the film. Adam composed the piece of music to be played and I played it on the keyboard.

Email for permission

This is a screen print of the email we sent to wichita to ask permission to use the song Biko by Bloc Party in our short film.
